MarkAlain Déry, DO, MPH, FACOI has a diverse work experience in various roles and organizations. Starting in 2009, they worked as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine, where they conducted clinical work and taught medical students. MarkAlain also secured federally funded grants and developed Tulane's first comprehensive HIV, hepatitis C, and STI clinic. During this time, they also served as the Medical Director for the Syringe Service Program and was involved in various committees and programs related to infection control and antibiotic stewardship.

In 2012, MarkAlain Déry took on the role of Traveling Medical Director at SANTE TOTAL, and in 2014, they became a Visiting Professor at ACOI: American College of Osteopathic Internists. In the same year, they founded and became the Executive Director of 102.3FM WHIV-LP, a radio station that focused on infectious disease awareness.

In 2015, MarkAlain Déry joined the World Health Organization as a Clinical/Field Epidemiologist for the Ebola Response Team in Sierra Leone. MarkAlain played a crucial role in finding active cases, conducting testing, contact tracing, and isolating positive cases to control the transmission of Ebola.

In 2018, MarkAlain Déry became the Chief Innovation Officer and Physician at Access Health Louisiana, where they continued their work in healthcare innovation. MarkAlain was also the Founder of the HIV Awareness Music Project (HAMP) Fest, which they led until 2018.

In 2020, they served on the COVID-19 Reopening Advisory Panel for the City of New Orleans Health Department. In 2021, they co-founded NoiseFilter, an educational platform that focuses on health and wellness through creative storytelling and multimedia content.

In 2022, MarkAlain Déry participated in trauma training with the Swiss Foundation. Through their work, they aim to reduce health disparities, increase health literacy, and empower students to pursue careers in STEM.

MarkAlain Déry, DO, MPH, FACOI began their education by earning a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Human Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz in the years 1986-1991. MarkAlain then went on to pursue a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree with a focus on Biostatistics and International Health from Loma Linda University from 1992 to 1994.

In 1994, MarkAlain Déry obtained their Doctor of Medicine (DO) degree from the University of New England. MarkAlain continued their medical education by completing a Medical Internship at South Pointe Hospital of the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine from 1999 to 2000.

From 2000 to 2003, MarkAlain Déry engaged in an Internal Medicine Residency Program at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Following this, they obtained a National Health Service Corps Scholar degree in Public Health from the Navajo Reservation between 2003 and 2006.

To further enhance their expertise, MarkAlain Déry completed an Infectious Disease Fellowship Program at Tulane University School of Medicine from 2006 to 2008.

Through these educational experiences, MarkAlain Déry has developed a strong foundation in both internal medicine and public health. MarkAlain has also obtained several additional certifications, including being Board Certified in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine. MarkAlain is a Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists and is licensed as an Osteopathic Physician and Surgeon by the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners.
