Jean-Philippe Pignol is the Senior Vice President, Chief Medical and Technology Officer, possessing nearly three decades of leadership experience in the field of radiation oncology in a broad range of clinical and academic positions. In his role at Accuray, he leads global medical and scientific affairs, as well as product development, and is responsible for building strategic collaborations with healthcare networks, universities and research institutions, and commercial organizations, including technology start-ups.

As a board-certified radiation oncologist with a Ph.D. in nuclear physics, Prof. Pignol has practiced throughout North America and Europe while conducting pioneering clinical trials for breast cancers, and innovative research in medical physics. Prof. Pignol has published more than 125 peer-reviewed publications and has led a first demonstration of the clinical benefit of intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) through a multicenter phase III trial. As the chair of radiation oncology in several academic centers — including Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, The Netherlands and Dalhousie University in Halifax, Canada — he has developed a renowned reputation for the development of innovative radiotherapy solutions in close collaboration between universities and industry partners, to conduct clinical trials, create and deliver new technologies, working on scientific advisory boards to advance best practices in the field.
