Jay Johnson has a strong background in research and development, with significant experience in various leadership roles. From 1987 to 2004, they worked at Smiths Medical, where they created and managed the Diabetes Division, overseeing product planning, budgeting, and new product development. In 2003, they joined Data Sciences International/Transoma Medical as the VP of Research and Development, where they led a team of 80 employees and implemented efficient product development processes. Jay then served as the VP of Worldwide R&D at Medtronic/Covidien from 2008 to 2014, managing a technical staff of 50 and a budget of $12M. Jay played a key role in the acquisition of SuperDimension by Covidien. In 2014, they joined Centerline Biomedical as a Business Advisory Board Member and later became the Director of R&D and Regulatory Affairs. From 2016 to 2019, Jay served as the Vice President of Research and Development at Elucent Medical, Inc. Currently, they are the Vice President of Product Development at ACIST Medical Systems.

Jay Johnson attended the University of Minnesota from 1982 to 1987, where they pursued a degree in Mechanical Engineering. During their time at the university, they concentrated their studies on Biomedical/Mechanical Engineering and Pre-Med. Jay completed their Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) with a specialization in Mechanical and Biomedical Engineering.
