Sonya Richburg

Sonya Richburg has extensive experience in employment and compliance counsel roles. Sonya currently holds the position of VP, Chief Employment & Compliance Counsel at Acosta since 2023. Prior to that, they worked at Coca-Cola Consolidated from 2016-2023, starting as Counsel, Labor & Employment and then becoming Senior Director, Counsel Labor & Employment. Sonya'sresponsibilities included providing strategic leadership, counsel, guidance, support, and training across the organization of 17k+ employees to drive compliance and reduce risk. Sonya also managed employee litigation and arbitrations and liaised with various administrative agencies. Before that, they worked at Lowe's Companies, Inc. as Corporate Counsel, Director of Employment Counseling from 2012-2016, where they partnered with company stakeholders to offer counsel and support related to employment and labor compliance for 300k+ employees. Prior to that, they worked at Compass Group, North America from 2004-2011, starting as Corporate Counsel and later being promoted to Senior Corporate Counsel, Employment & Compliance. At Compass Group, they advised on employment issues, authored position statements, and assisted with employment issues related to mergers and acquisitions. Sonya'searliest work experience was as the Manager of Employee Relations & EEO at Georgia State University from 2001-2004.

Sonya Richburg earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Rutgers University in 1993. Sonya then attended the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School, where they obtained a Juris Doctor (JD) degree in Law from 1993 to 1996.
