Cortney Newell

Director of Philanthropic Partnerships at Activate

Cortney Newell is the current Director of Philanthropic Partnerships at Activate. Before that, they were a self-employed fundraising consultant from March 2019 to January 2022. Cortney has also worked with the International Rescue Committee, Women's Refugee Commission, and Mercy Corps.

Newell has experience in managing development of funding proposals and securing funding for organizations in need. Cortney has worked with clients all over the world, including in Latin American, central Africa, and the Middle East. Additionally, they have experience with various donors, such as OFDA/BHA, ECHO, EC, SDC, PRM, USAID, UNHCR, UNOCHA, FAO, WFP, WHO, UNICEF, SV, GAC, and START fund.

In their previous positions, Newell provided strategic leadership and technical oversight to emergency programs, conducted research, and managed humanitarian programs. Cortney is experienced in working in high-pressure situations and is dedicated to helping those in need.

Cortney Newell has a Bachelor of Arts in English Language and Literature from the University of Virginia and a Master of Public Administration in Development Practice from Columbia University in the City of New York.

They are on a team with Philip Loew - Senior Director, Expansion, Lisa Tomlinson - Chief People and Inclusion Officer, and Caitlin Cutter - Executive Assistant. Cortney Newell reports to Todd Johnson, Interim Chief Executive Officer.
