Nelson Siegel, P.Eng has over 13 years of work experience in various engineering roles. Nelson is currently working as a Senior Data Engineer at ActiveState, where they design and builds ETL pipelines using Apache Airflow. Nelson implements health checks on data additions and pipeline dependencies and provides dimensional representations of data for downstream consumption.
Prior to their current position, Nelson worked at Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan as a Senior Data Engineer. In this role, they led an embedded team within Capital Markets, facilitating the application of data ingestion, analytics, and machine learning. Nelson proposed and is currently implementing Entity Resolution using Word Embeddings and Neural Networks. Additionally, Nelson worked with business teams to productionalize BAU systems.
Before joining Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, Nelson was a Data Engineer at the same company, where they started in 2018 and worked until 2020.
Nelson also has experience working at Bombardier Aerospace, where they served as an Analytical Modelling Focal from 2014 to 2018, and as an Aircraft Economics Analyst from 2010 to 2014.
In 2008, Nelson worked as a Systems Analyst at Pratt & Whitney Canada, where they improved a certification requirements database and redesigned the database schema for better performance. Nelson also developed an interface for certification requirement tracking using Java ADF faces.
Prior to that, Nelson worked as a Research Assistant at Ryerson University from 2007 to 2008.

Nelson Siegel, P.Eng has a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) degree in Aerospace Engineering from Ryerson University, which they earned from 2006 to 2010. In addition, they hold a Certificate in Big Data, Advanced Data Science and Predictive Analytics from York University, which they obtained in 2019. Furthermore, Nelson Siegel has also obtained the certification of Professional Engineer (P.Eng) from the Professional Engineers Ontario in June 2016.
