Dr. Sonia Calero-Barney is a Research Engineer at ADEM and is currently working on Plasma Catalysis for Ammonia production. She received her Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from University of Louisville in 2022. Dr.Calero’s research experience is in nitrogen plasmas, plasma-assisted liquid phase epitaxy of III-V alloys toward photoelectrochemical energy conversion applications. Her research also focuses on reaction mechanisms of atmospheric ammonia production through plasma-aided heterogeneous catalysis of nitrogen, hydrogen, and air mixtures. She conducts Optical Emission Spectroscopy (OES) measurements of plasma flames to obtain electron temperature and density. She modeled thermodynamic equilibrium compositions of different gaseous mixtures containing nitrogen, oxygen, and hydrogen to optimize process feed.
