Javier Barcelo

Javier Barcelo is an accomplished executive with extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry, currently serving as the Chief Commercial Officer for Europe at ADVANZ PHARMA since July 2022. Prior to this role, Javier held significant positions at Intercept Pharmaceuticals as Regional Vice President for Southern Europe, where responsibilities included establishing the company's presence in Spain and Portugal and launching a major product for liver disease. Javier's leadership experience spans various companies, including Vertex Pharmaceuticals as Country Manager for Spain, Human Genome Sciences as Managing Director, and Gilead Sciences as Business Unit Director for HIV. An effective strategist, Javier has successfully driven market introductions, built high-performing teams, and navigated complex legal and operational setups throughout a distinguished career that began at Eli Lilly and various roles within the organization. Javier earned an Executive MBA from IE Business School and a Licenciado in Derecho from Universidad Complutense de Madrid.
