Dr. King Jordan is an Associate Professor in the School of Biology and Director of the Bioinformatics Graduate Program at the Georgia Institute of Technology.
Dr. Jordan combines an educational background in Biology and Genetics with 20 years of experience in Bioinformatics. He received a BS in Biology from the University of Colorado (1992) and a PhD in Genetics from the University of Georgia (1998). Before coming to Georgia Tech in 2006, Dr. Jordan trained at the National Center for Biotechnology Information at the National Institutes of Health, the world’s leading Bioinformatics institute. Members of Dr. Jordan’s laboratory conduct research in bioinformatics and genomics with an emphasis on the analysis of large data sets towards the understanding of the molecular and genetic determinants of human health.
His research efforts involve both the development and application of computational tools specifically tailored for genomic sequence analysis and various ‘omics’ functional analyses.Dr. Jordan’s research has resulted in more than 100 publications in journals such as Nature, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Nucleic Acids Research and Bioinformatics, and he was been awarded research grants from the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control, the Georgia Research Alliance and the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation.
Dr. Jordan is also involved in the development of Bioinformatics and Genomics capacity in Latin America. He was named a Fulbright fellow to Colombia in 2012, he is the Co-Founder and Director of the PanAmerican Bioinformatics Institute, and he serves as an external scientific advisor to BIOS – the Colombian National Center of Bioinformatics.
In addition to his academic work, Dr. Jordan consults with industry partners to provide custom solutions to their bioinformatics challenges via his company Genomic Informatics Consulting.
