Cynthia Burzell, Ph.D. has worked in the biotechnology and education fields since 2002. Cynthia began their career at St. George's University, where they served as an Instructor, Manager, and Demonstrator. During their time there, they taught Microbiology, Genetics, Research Methods in the Arts and Sciences Program, Marine Microbiology in the Graduate Program, and Microbiology Laboratories in the Medical Program and the Arts and Sciences Program. Cynthia also assisted in the development and implementation of the Water Testing Unit, testing and analyzing water quality, and training technicians. In 2006, they co-founded Aequor, Inc., a San Diego, California biotechnology startup corporation that provides green chemicals from our oceans, and served as the Chief Scientific Officer and President.

Cynthia Burzell, Ph.D. has a long and impressive educational history. Cynthia earned their Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Mount Holyoke College in 2001. Cynthia then went on to St. George's University to earn their Master of Science in Microbiology with a specialty in Marine Biotechnology in 2004. Finally, they returned to St. George's University to earn their Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology with a specialty in Medical Biotechnology in 2008.
