René Bernards

Chief Scientific Officer & Co‑founder at Agendia

René Bernards is the Chief Scientific Officer & Co-founder at Agendia. Prior to this, they were at NKI, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Whitehead Institute.

René Bernards began their career in 1985 as a postdoctoral fellow at the Whitehead Institute with Robert Weinberg. In 1988, they became an assistant professor at Massachusetts General Hospital, where they worked in cancer genetics. In 1992, they left Massachusetts General Hospital to join NKI.

At NKI, René Bernards worked on developing new cancer treatments. In 2000, they and a group of colleagues founded Agendia, a company that provides personalized cancer diagnostics. Under René Bernards' leadership, Agendia has become a leading provider of genomic tests for cancer patients.

René Bernards studied molecular biology at Leiden University and the University of Amsterdam, earning their PhD from the former institution.

René Bernards reports to Mark R. Straley, Chief Executive Officer. They work with Brian Dow - Chief Financial Officer, Franklin Libenson - Interim, Chief Commercial Officer, and Bastiaan Van Der Baan - Chief Clinical & Business Development Officer.
