Build Engineer (Devon & Somerset)

Airband specialise in delivering highspeed broadband to our customers that live in rural communities, and we do this through leading technology. We are delighted that we have created a number of solutions to address the challenges our customers face in being connected and we achieve this through a combination of Fibre and Wireless connections.

As we continue to develop our network in Devon and Somerset, we are looking for a Build Engineer to join us at this exciting time. Whilst you need to be technically capable, we also look for soft skills like active listening and communication so we can support our customers effectively. In this role you need to plan your time, be resilient and demonstrate and uphold Airband’s values at all times.

What we are looking for

You will have knowledge and experience of working on BTOR networks and have the ability to prioritise, organise and deliver planned works. You will work with your supervisor and be proactive in the resolution of engineering obstacles. You will be flexible to undertake works outside core working hours. Experience of completing risk assessments and hazard identification and comfortable working at heights. We do use different technology and systems so you must have a good level of IT competence in Microsoft packages and Email

Responsibilities of the role

  • Complete works on the overhead and underground. Airband/BTOR/JUP networks
  • Accurately report progress to management team.
  • Communicate issues identified on site and propose solutions.
  • Report and escalate any issues to management team as required.
  • Maintain a professional and tidy site, ensuring that customers/residents are communicated with politely.
  • Conduct daily checks of vehicles in line with the Airband Transport Policy.
  • Conduct daily checks of plant and tools, ensuring they are safe to use and, where applicable, carry valid calibration certificates.
  • Complete site-specific risk assessments.
  • Responsible for following all Health and Safety guidelines and ensure awareness of the hazards and potential risks involved.
  • Ensuring all work activity complies with environment regulations.
  • Responsible for completing and updating all appropriate paperwork for your daily works on job sheets, risk assessments, plant sheets and/or vehicle sheets.
  • Ensuring all work activity complies with environment regulations including but not limited to working efficiently and tidily maintaining a clean environment at all times.

Please note: It is important that all our engineers have the right certifications to be compliant and safe whilst working. Therefore, we have a list of mandatory certs that are required for the role, but we will support new colleagues to fill any certs gaps they have before they are fully operational in the role.

Mandatory Certificates - Static & Mobile Boom 1B & 3B, First Aid at Work, Asbestos Awareness, Manual Handling, Street Works Operative (Units 1 - 6 & 9), Confined Spaces Med Risk , A8 or SA001 OH Safety, A9 or SA002 UG Safety, S7 Sub Duct and Cable Installation, S8 Overhead Cable Installation, S9 Pole Step Adjustment, SA006 Safe Working in Civils, OPS Card Holder, SA011 Duct Blocking, SA015 Duct Laying, SA016 Core Drilling, Working at Height or SA051C Tetra – Desirable
