Jenaro R. Peña

Mr. Peña is a retired 25 year veteran of the New York City Police Department, retiring as a Lieutenant on Special Assignment. His career included assignments to the Tactical Patrol Unit, Brooklyn South Task Force, patrol supervision in both the 79th Precinct in Bedford Stuyvesant Brooklyn, and the 73rd Precinct in East New York/Brownsville Brooklyn. As a Sergeant he worked in the Recruitment Section within the Personnel Bureau of the NYPD, held the title of the Executive Officer of the Crime Stoppers Unit in the Detective Bureau, and as a Lieutenant worked as a Platoon Commander, Special Operations Lieutenant, Training Lieutenant, and ended his career as the Patrol Borough Manhattan North Compstat Coordinator.

He holds a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor’s degree in Police Science, Magna Cum Laude, both from John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He was also an adjunct professor at Briarcliffe College in both the Bethpage and Patchogue Campuses for a period of 8 years, instructing undergraduate students in various topics within the Criminal Justice discipline. While in the Police Department, he completed multiple courses such as Auto Crime School, Dignitary Protection School, Sex Crimes and Child Abuse Course, Emergency Medical Technician Course, Street Narcotics Enforcement Training and Losing Proposition Training. He was also one of eight Lieutenants selected to work with the City of New York Personnel Department writing a Lieutenant’s promotional exam.
