Before their time at the CVB, Mya worked at the City of Unalaska where they held the position of HR Administrative Specialist from May 1995 to September 1999. Mya was responsible for various HR activities, including recruitment, on-boarding, compliance, and benefits administration.
Prior to their role at the City of Unalaska, Mya worked as an HR Administrative Specialist at UniSea from July 1991 to March 1994. In this role, they handled compensation and benefits administration, coordinated the annual arrival process for hundreds of employees, and implemented a timekeeping system.

Mya Renken earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management from Oregon State University, which they attended from 1984 to 1987. In 2013, they obtained the PHR certification from the HR Certification Institute.
