Planning Commission Chair at Albemarle County

Fred Missel is an accomplished professional with extensive experience in planning and development roles. Currently serving as a Planning Commissioner for Albemarle County since January 2022, Fred has also held positions at the UVA Foundation since November 2000, including Director of Design & Development and Real Estate Project Manager. Fred actively contributes to several organizations, including as a Board Member for the New City Arts Initiative and the Albemarle Housing Improvement Program. Additionally, Fred is part of the teaching faculty at the University of Virginia since August 2012 and previously worked as a Senior Planner and Landscape Architect at The Cox Company from September 1990 to November 2000. Fred's academic qualifications include a Master of Landscape Architecture and a Master of Planning from the University of Virginia, along with a BA in Political Science and Social Work from Albright College.
