Director Global Software Asset Management & Global Critical Incident Management at Alcon

Derek Heywood has a solid work experience in various roles and companies. Derek started their career in 1989 at Ann Taylor, initially as an Operations Manager and later as a Senior Manager of Operations. In these roles, they managed the complete operations of a 24x7 Corporate Data Center and played a hands-on role in all aspects of the Data Center. Derek also led a SAP Infrastructure project for the North American Data Center and established policies, procedures, and operational standards for Disaster Recovery.

In 2012, Derek joined Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation as a Major Incident Manager and NOC SME. Derek managed the Major Incident Management process, conducted awareness campaigns and training, and oversaw large-scale global and enterprise technology incidents. Derek also coordinated and drove activities during incidents to meet customer-specific SLAs.

Derek then moved to Alcon in 2013, where they took on the role of Global Data Center Manager and Global Critical Incident Manager. In this role, they developed and configured systems specifications, ensured software compliance standards, evaluated interface between systems and operational requirements, and managed the tactical day-to-day operations of the Novartis Operations Center (NOC).

Currently, Derek is the Director of Global Software Asset Management and Global Critical Incident Management at Alcon, a position they have held since 2023.
