Senior Content Developer/Linguist at Alelo

Blake Cotton has worked in a variety of roles since 1999. Blake began their career at Barnes & Noble as a Bookseller/Barista in 1999. In 2004, they joined the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians as a Staff Linguist/Serrano Language Teacher/Recording Engineer. In this role, they conducted extensive field research on the Serrano language and co-edited the first grammar of Serrano designed to be used by learners and co-wrote a dictionary of Serrano, including an online digital version augmented with multimedia files. In 2010, they joined Alelo, Inc as a Content Developer/Linguist. In 2015, they joined Alelo as a Senior Content Developer/Linguist. In this role, they designed AI-enabled, avatar-based, interactive English language simulations for EFL students worldwide. Blake also led culture and language projects on courses covering: the Caribbean, Central America, South America, Hispaniola, West Africa, Horn of Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, and Afghanistan. Additionally, they led conversions of Central America, South America, and Hispaniola courses from web platforms to mobile and researched grammar and phonology of target languages for instruction.

Blake Cotton has attended two institutions of higher education. From 2007 to 2009, they attended Chaffey College. From 2000 to 2004, they attended Idaho State University, where they studied Linguistics.
