Katrine Hommelhoff Jensen has a diverse range of work experience spanning several industries. Katrine has been working at Alexandra Instituttet since 2016, where they currently hold the position of Senior Computer Vision and Graphics Specialist and Assistant Head of Visual Computing Lab. Prior to this role, they served as the Team Lead of Visual Computing Lab Cph, leading research and product-driven applied research and software development in the areas of image processing, computer vision, and 3D computer graphics.
In 2011, Katrine began their academic journey at the University of Copenhagen, where they completed their Ph.D. in the tomographic 3D reconstruction of proteins from transmission electron microscope (TEM) images. Katrine received a scholarship financed by the Center of Stochastic Geometry and Advanced Bioimaging (CSGB), an inter-institutional collaboration between the Universities of Aarhus, Aalborg, and Copenhagen in Denmark.
Katrine had the opportunity to be a Visiting Ph.D. Candidate at Yale University in 2013. During their time there, they collaborated with Prof. Fred Sigworth and the Sigworth Lab, focusing on the tomographic 3D reconstruction of membrane proteins in a vesicle membrane environment.
Before pursuing their academic career, Katrine gained experience in software development. Katrine worked as an Independent 3D software developer at Follow-Me! Technology Systems GmbH from 2007 to 2011. Prior to that, they were a 3D software developer at 3Shape A/S from 2004 to 2007. Additionally, they had a student job as a Software Developer at Super Vision, Strategi og Data in 1999, where they developed a large-scale finances system. Katrine also worked as a Software Developer in the Dept. of Child Cancer at Rigshospitalet from 1998 to 1999, where they developed a database for administering cancer patient medications.
Katrine's work experience also extends beyond the tech industry. Katrine worked as a skiing instructor at Skischule Activ in Hinterglemm, Austria from 2004 to 2007.
Katrine Hommelhoff Jensen has an extensive education history. Katrine began their studies at Albertslund Amtsgymnasium, where they completed their secondary education from 1992 to 1995. Afterward, they enrolled at the University of Copenhagen, or Københavns Universitet, where they pursued a Bachelor of Science or M.Sc in Computer Science. Katrine completed this degree from 1996 to 2006.
Motivated to further their education, Katrine continued at the University of Copenhagen and embarked on a doctoral program in Computer Science. From 2011 to 2016, they diligently worked towards their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree, solidifying their expertise in the field.
