Laura Shorten

Laura Shorten is a dedicated human rights professional currently serving as a Human Rights Researcher at Human Rights Now since January 2024, focusing on the promotion and protection of global human rights from Tokyo, Japan. In addition, Laura holds the position of Research and Communications Manager at Align Social Impact, working at the intersection of social impact, health, climate justice, and women's reproductive rights. Laura also serves as an EU Human Rights Ambassador and Law and Human Rights Specialist for the Cambodian Human Rights Action Coalition, alongside consulting on migrant workers' rights with Migrant Workers, Justice and Rule of Law. Previous experience includes roles as a Human Rights Researcher and Social Media Manager at MZEMO and as an Alumni Relations Officer at the UCD Foundation, with an initial career start as a Professional Human Rights Fundraiser at UNICEF Ireland. Laura's academic background includes an Advanced Masters of Law in International Children's Rights Law from Leiden University and other degrees in Law and Political Science from various prestigious institutions.
