Danuta Whetton has a diverse work experience spanning over different organizations and roles. Danuta started their career in 2007 as a Political Officer in the European Union Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development (DFATD) Canada, where they managed Canada's bilateral relationship with Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein. Danuta then moved on to the Africa Relations Bureau within the same department, working as a Policy Analyst and providing support to Canada's relations with Pan-African institutions.
In 2009, Danuta joined Citizenship and Immigration Canada as a Policy Analyst in the Strategic Policy Division. Danuta played a key role in developing the Trafficking in Persons Action Plan and improving the department's human trafficking database. Danuta later transitioned to the Canadian Hunger Foundation (CHF) as a Program Manager/Officer in the Programs Division, managing multi-million dollar projects in South Sudan, Ethiopia, and Cambodia.
In 2015, Danuta joined Canadian Feed The Children (CFTC) as a Program Manager/Technical Advisor in the Programs Division. Danuta oversaw large-scale projects in Ghana and Ethiopia, managed project operations, and played a key role in business development activities.
Their most recent position is with Alinea International, where they have held multiple roles since 2018. Initially, they served as a Manager/Deputy Manager, Business Development, leading business engagement with key institutional donors such as Global Affairs Canada, UK Foreign Commonwealth Office, and World Bank. In 2021, they were promoted to the position of Deputy Director, Business Development and Strategic Partnerships. Currently, Danuta holds the position of Director, Business Development, and continues to drive new business opportunities for Alinea International.
Throughout their career, Danuta has demonstrated strong project management, technical expertise, and a proven track record in business development and strategic partnerships.
Danuta Whetton has a diverse education history. Danuta obtained a High School Diploma from Immaculata High School in 2003. Danuta then pursued a Bachelor of Social Sciences Honours in International Development and Globalization at the University of Ottawa from 2003 to 2007. In 2006, they participated in an International Exchange Program at The Chinese University of Hong Kong, studying Political Economy, Global Politics, Anthropology, and Mandarin (Chinese). In 2007, they attended The University of Manchester, earning a Masters of Arts in International Development: Poverty, Conflict and Reconstruction. Danuta focused on Planning & Managing Development, Poverty & Livelihoods, and Reconstruction & Development. In 2011, they obtained a Certificate in Livelihoods and Markets from St. Francis Xavier University, specializing in Micro-enterprise & Market-led Development, Public Private Partnerships, and Pro-poor Strategies for Value.
