Massimo Scanziani

Advisor at Allen Institute

Dr. Scanziani is a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, and a Professor at the University of California, San Francisco. The goal of his research is to bridge the gap between cellular and system neuroscience. As a model system, he chose the mammalian visual cortex. Dr. Scanziani's lab uses cutting-edge electrophysiological, imaging, optogenetic, and anatomical techniques. The work performed in his lab spans from the in vitro analysis of the biophysical properties of single neurons to in vivo recordings from neuronal populations during sensory stimulation in awake, behaving animals. Through this research program, his lab is starting to understand how the structure and function of each individual element of a neuronal circuit contribute to the processing of sensory information.
