Science Department Head at Allen-Stevenson School

Jack Cooley has a diverse work experience spanning various educational institutions and organizations. Jack currently serves as the Science Department Head at Allen-Stevenson School since 2019. Prior to that, they co-founded and served as the board president for Community Bots, a nonprofit organization focused on providing equipment and training in STEM-robotics for middle school girls and their teachers. Jack also served as the President of the Board of Directors for The Community Bots en español. Within The Chapin School, they held multiple roles including Robotics Program Founder and Coordinator, Head of the Middle School Science Department and Science Teacher, Community Life and Diversity Council Member, Chair of Academic Technology/Design Space Task Force, and Class 7 Supervisor. Additionally, they worked as a Camp Director at i2 Learning and held various positions at Lyford Cay International School including International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program and Middle Years Program (MYP) Coordinator, Chair of Accreditation Self Study, Academic Dean of Secondary School, and Science & Math Team Leader. Jack started their career at Winston Prep School as a Middle and High School Teacher, Science Coordinator, and Experiential Education Coordinator.

Jack Cooley has a diverse education history. In 1988, they earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychobiology and Music from Bowdoin College. After that, from 1993 to 1996, they attended the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where they obtained a Master of Science degree in Public Health Nutrition. Later, from 2003 to 2005, they pursued further studies at Teachers College, Columbia University, acquiring a Master of Arts degree in Secondary School Science Education. In 2011, they also obtained a certification as a LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Instructor from the Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy.
