Alessandro Serafini is currently a Research Assistant in Strain Engineering at Allozymes since March 2023. Previously, Alessandro was a team member of the Imperial College iGEM team from October 2021 to October 2022, focusing on developing a sustainable biofungicide for wheat stem rust and leading the wet-lab subteam. Alessandro also contributed to fundraising efforts and engaged with academic and industrial stakeholders. In early 2022, Alessandro was a winner of the Catalyse Entrepreneurship Programme at SynBio UK, securing a £5K pre-seed investment for a startup idea. A visiting student at KAUST in 2021, Alessandro developed an automated pipeline for E. coli transformation. Alessandro holds a Master of Engineering in Biomedical/Medical Engineering from Imperial College London and has a background in classical studies and natural sciences from institutions in Italy and Sweden.
