Alicia Cortez has been involved in the New Bedford community for many years. She is an organizer for Movimiento Cosecha, an organization that stands for dignity, respect, and permanent protection for members of the undocumented community. Ms. Cortez is also a part of the New Bedford Immigrant Support Network, an organization that helps provide transportation to those who are undocumented without a drivers license. Ms. Cortez worked with De Valles Day Care for the last 15 years and has served on the Board of Directors since 2018. Additionally, Ms. Cortez volunteers with local churches, food pantries, and assists with translation. She is involved in Grupo de mujeres New Bedford, a women’s group that works to empower women. She was born in Guatemala and came to the United States in 1988. Ms. Cortes has five children and lives in New Bedford.
