Their most recent position was as a Senior Advisor in Civic Engagement at The Johns Hopkins University, where they led the design and management of a $1M grant program for neighborhood improvement. They also authored valuable guides on engaging volunteers. Prior to this, Nikola held the position of Director of Engagement and Programs at Cities of Service, where they managed grant programs, provided technical assistance to local governments, and organized expert panels on critical topics during the pandemic. They also played a leadership role in the Engaged Cities Award, recognizing innovative cities globally. In their earlier career, Nikola served as a Community Engagement Coordinator at the City of Dubuque, where they established the city's community engagement process and organized civic academies. They also held the position of Director at CultureAll, where they increased staff capacity through internship positions, and worked as an Assistant Supervisor at ChildServe, where they supervised staff and addressed burnout issues.
