ALONE support older people to age at home. We provide direct, frontline services to people aged 60 and over, through support coordination, support and befriending, housing with support, and the application of assistive technology. We have a network of staff and more than 3,000 volunteers across the country We have been awarded Quality Marks from Volunteer Ireland, the ISO, the Charities Regulator and the Housing Regulatory Standard.

We are now recruiting a Research and Evaluation Manager to join our Research, Evaluation and Policy team.

This role involves managing ALONE’s research and evaluation function, with a focus on collecting and utilizing evidence from monitoring, evaluation and research activities to guide national policy, decision making and service delivery.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the daily operations of the research and evaluation function, ensuring high quality work and the achievement of annual strategic objectives

  • Support the implementation of ALONE’s research, evaluation and policy strategy to facilitate evidence-based policy asks and service delivery

  • Provide line management for high-performing research and evaluation team

  • Take overall responsibility for implementing monitoring systems and tools, including developing KPIs and reports

  • Supervise the design and development of new research and evaluation led projects

  • Oversee quantitative and qualitative data collection, input and analysis including a national impact assessment

  • Promote dissemination for research and evaluation outputs, ensuring evidence is used to influence policy and national discourse on ageing

  • Engage older people in ALONE’s research and evaluation activities

  • Support and develop research partnerships with national and international academic partners

  • Develop research and evaluation policies and procedures

  • Evaluate and approve requests from external researchers

  • Perform any other duties within the general requirements of the above that may be assigned.

Essential skills & experience:

The successful candidate will have:

  • A postgraduate research degree at PhD level or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a research/evaluation role
  • Experience managing small teams
  • Proven record in research and evaluation in the social sciences, and ability to conduct research, that will contribute to the research profile of ALONE
  • A record of research publications and dissemination
  • Excellent relationship management skills and experience
  • Ability to work with all levels internally, and with external stakeholders, and to be a team player with the ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships
  • Excellent communication (oral and written) and influencing skills with the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people and positively influence others
  • Ability to actively listen, seek out and consider information objectively, and respond to challenging situations with reason and proportionality
  • Strong computer and data analysis skills including the Microsoft Office suite, and database management.
