Heidi Friesen

Heidi Friesen, CPA, CMA, BBA, has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Heidi is currently working at AltaGas Ltd. as the Lead Specialist for Finance Controls & Business Process Improvements, a position they have held since 2024. Prior to this role, they served as a Senior Analyst in the same department, starting in 2020.

Before joining AltaGas Ltd., Heidi worked as a Senior Auditor and Business Advisor, providing compliance and continuous improvement advice to companies in the energy industry, from 2019 to 2020. During this time, they analyzed business processes and made recommendations for remediation, advocated for strong corporate governance, and implemented progressive best practices efficiently and cost-effectively.

From 2019 to 2020, Heidi was the Manager of Internal Audit and Advisory at STEP Energy Services. In this role, they led an in-house C-SOX program, reducing external auditor dependence. Heidi also created the 2020 Audit Plan, which included internal controls, internal audit, and vendor audit engagements, obtaining audit committee approval.

Heidi's experience at CNOOC International, where they worked from 2006 to 2019, demonstrates their expertise in internal controls, contract audit, and financial controls. Their roles included Senior Analyst for Internal Controls and Contract Audit, Staff Advisor for Financial Controls, Project Manager for the Legal Entity Accounting Project, and Accountant III for Corporate Planning. In these positions, they prepared management reports, influenced stakeholder improvement in contract formation and supply chain processes, provided guidance on corporate governance and compliance requirements, and led projects to deliver new processes and reporting solutions.

Earlier in their career, Heidi worked as a Consultant at Nexen Inc. and held various finance professional roles at the British Columbia Lottery Corporation.

Heidi Friesen, CPA, CMA, BBA has a Bachelor's of Business Administration degree in Accounting from Thompson Rivers University, which they completed from 1996 to 2001. Heidi also holds a CPA, CMA certification from the Certified Management Accountants of British Columbia, which they obtained from 2002 to 2004.
