Roger Liu, Ph.D. has a diverse and extensive work experience. Roger currently serves as the Director of Medical Education for the Institute for Health Equity at AltaMed Health Services, overseeing educational programming and curriculum development. Roger is also the Co-Host of the podcast "Health Equity from the Frontlines" at AltaMed.
In addition, Dr. Liu is appointed to the California Health Workforce and Education Training Council, advising on increasing the supply and diversity of healthcare providers in underserved areas.
Previously, they held various roles at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, including Director of Research and Resident Scholarship, Director of the PRIME-LC Residency Program in Family Medicine, and Professor. Roger focused on training future healthcare professionals and improving the health of medically underserved communities.
Before that, Dr. Liu worked as a consultant at Liu and Associates Consulting, providing program development and evaluation services for academic and non-academic institutions.
Roger also had a significant role at the University of California, Berkeley, where they served as Associate Director, Researcher, and Instructor in the Departments of Molecular and Cell Biology/Integrative Biology. Roger directed undergraduate diversity programs, coordinated coalition efforts to increase diversity in STEM fields, and instructed various science courses.
Throughout their career, Dr. Liu has made contributions to the fields of medical education, health equity, diversity, and scientific research.
Roger Liu, Ph.D. completed their undergraduate studies at the University of California, Berkeley from 1992 to 1995. Roger earned a Bachelor's degree in Integrative Biology and graduated with honors. Following this, they pursued their graduate studies at the same institution from 1995 to 2002. Roger received their Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Integrative Biology, specializing in Comparative Endocrinology and Physiology.
