Andy Hayden

CTO at Altos Research

Andy Hayden began their career in 2006 as an Assistant Project Accountant for Network Rail, where they extracted data from databases to compile reports and was responsible for balancing several hundred projects' accounts in the Southeast region following migration to Oracle Projects. In the same year, they also took on the role of Mathematics Supervisor (Tutor) at the University of Warwick, where they were responsible for a group of Mathematics undergraduates, focusing on discussion, group tasks and marking their work.

In 2007, Andy Hayden took on two roles: Analyst for Network Rail, where they liaised with admin staff and accountants to generate detailed reports for Network Rail directors and recommended methods to control specific types of expenses, and Mathematics researcher (PhD programme), tutor and exam supervisor at Durham University, where they researched billiards, hyperbolic geometry and Teichmueller theory.

In 2013, Andy Hayden joined Awesome Decision as a Software Engineer and Data Scientist, where they designed and implemented machine learning in a decision flow model and was responsible for back and front-end development using ruby-on-rails, angular, heroku, redis, and postgres. In 2014, they took on the role of Technical Consultant and Author at Bold Chaos, where they built business intelligence tooling and statistical visualizations, coached companies on how to use python for data science, and ran workshops on using and migrating to git, continuous integration and deployment.

Finally, in 2015, Andy Hayden joined Altos Research as CTO and Principal Software Engineer, where they were responsible for server-side coding with Scala Play, implemented architectural changes, decreasing server costs by 70%, and automated all the things using SQS and python on AWS Lambda.

Andy Hayden completed their Master of Mathematics in Mathematics from the University of Warwick between 2003 and 2007. In 2008, they obtained their Level Three Kayak Coach certification from British Canoeing. In 2010, they became an Associate of the Higher Education Authority. In 2012, they completed a course with Udacity and obtained their Five Star White Water Leader (Kayak) certification from British Canoeing, Coaching Processes certification from British Canoeing, and Casualty Care certification from North-East Search & Rescue Association. In 2016, they obtained their AWS Certified Developer– Associate Level and AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate Level certifications from Amazon Web Services.
