Ignacio Basagoiti

Ignacio Basagoiti is a Managing Director with Alvarez & Marsal Transaction Advisory Group in Madrid. Hw brings more than 13 years of experience advising company management on large and mid-market buy- and sell-side financial and integrated due diligence projects.

Mr. Basagoiti specializes in coordinating, leading and developing customized solutions that address complex acquisitions and disposals for both private equity and strategic buyers. Since the 2008 financial crisis, he has been heavily involved in consolidating banks, insurance companies and asset management groups. Mr. Basagoiti has worked with clients across a range of industries, including business process outsourcing, brokerages, consumer finance, consumer products, education, environmental, fintech, healthcare, mobility, payments, real estate and servicing.

Mr. Basagoiti is well-known for his expertise in carve-outs, business plans, assessing historical and projected financial performance, synergy and cost saving initiatives, identifying potential revenue levers, accounting policies, supporting purchase price adjustments, understanding the sustainability implications of deals, and designing equity stories. He has led numerous international transactions requiring detailed knowledge of international financing reporting standards (IFRS) requirements.

Prior to joining A&M, Mr. Basagoiti was a Director with Deloitte Spain’s Transaction Services department, where he co-headed the financial services team and helped expand the department significantly. He also led the transaction services sustainability practice (ESG). Mr. Basagoiti began his career at Banco Santander as part of the cross-industry European M&A team.

Mr. Basagoiti earned a bachelor’s degree in business from ICADE in Madrid and the University of Sydney; a master’s degree (high honors) in audit, financial management and leadership from ICADE Business School; and an MBA (high honors) from Chicago Booth School of Business. Mr. Basagoiti is fluent in English and Spanish.
