Teodora Thea Nicola MD, PhD, MBA

Teodora Thea Nicola has a diverse and extensive work experience. Teodora Thea is currently the Director of Laboratory Research at Alveolus Bio, a company focused on developing microbiome-based products for lung health. Prior to this role, they served as the Lead Scientist at the same company, where they contributed to the pioneering of next-generation probiotic supplements.

Before joining Alveolus Bio, Teodora worked for nearly two decades at the Pediatrics Neonatology department of the University of Alabama at Birmingham. As an In vivo/In vitro Scientist, they conducted experiments to understand the role of TGF-beta in various biological systems, including the cardiovascular system, angiogenesis, mammary gland development, and breast cancer. Their responsibilities also included isolating primary cells and stem cells, performing molecular analyses, and generating gene-targeted mouse models.

Teodora began their career as an MD/PhD at the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, Germany. During this time, they pursued their Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, focusing on their research from 1996 to 1999.

Teodora Thea Nicola has an extensive education background with multiple degrees and certifications. Starting in 1990, they attended Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz, where they pursued a degree in General Medicine. Teodora Thea completed their Doctor of Medicine (MD) in 1996.

Following their medical degree, Teodora Thea Nicola pursued further education in the field of Molecular Biology, Genetics, and Cancer Research. From 1996 to 1999, they attended Heidelberg University, where they obtained their PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Cancer Research. This period of education helped their develop a strong foundation in the scientific aspects of their field.

In 2005, Teodora Thea Nicola returned to university to pursue an MBA for Scientists Program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham - Collat School of Business. Teodora Thea completed this program in 2007, acquiring knowledge and skills in Life Science Entrepreneurship. This degree allowed their to integrate their scientific expertise with business knowledge, enabling their to excel in a broader range of roles.

Later in their career, in 2018 and 2019, Teodora Thea Nicola enrolled again at the University of Alabama at Birmingham - Collat School of Business. Here, they completed the UAB Commercialization Accelerator Program, specializing in Nicola Consulting.

Aside from their degrees, Teodora Thea Nicola also obtained a certification in "Creating Great First Impressions" from LinkedIn in July 2020. This certification showcases their dedication to personal and professional development beyond traditional education.
