Jeff Bailey

Director Of NPI And Principal Process Engineer at Ambient Photonics

Jeff Bailey has a long history of work experience in the field of photovoltaics. Jeff began their career in 1987 as a Semiconductor Materials Scientist at the University of California, Berkeley's Department of Materials Science and Mineral Engineering. In 1995, they moved to Watkins Johnson Co.--SVG--ASML Thermal as a Materials Scientist. In 2003, they became Manager of Engineering Research and Development at Aviza Technology, where they developed H2 combustion-based radical wafer oxidation process from first principles through reaction simulations and CFD analyses. In 2008, they joined NanoGram as Principal Engineer of Deposition Processes, where they employed custom electron beam-induced current (EBIC) system for silicon defect and diffusion length mapping. From 2009 to 2014, they consulted for NanoGram Solar and was Founder and Chief Scientist at nVision Engineering LLC, where they provided computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations for clients in microelectronic, solar energy, nanomaterials, and consumer products. In 2010, they were a Senior Development Engineer at Solopower, where they led engineer for SoloPower's roll-to-roll (R2R) thermal selenization process of Cu/In/Ga precursors. In 2014, they became Senior Member of Technical Staff at MiaSole, where they pioneered innovative industry-leading capacitance-based device characterization and modeling to understand defect and impurities in CuInGaSe2 (CIGS). In 2020, they joined First Solar as a Development Engineer--Device Research, and in 2022 they became Principal Process Engineer at Ambient Photonics.

Jeff Bailey obtained their Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley.
