VP of Engineering at Ambient Photonics

Joshua W. has extensive experience in engineering and product development. Joshua started their career in 2007 as a Research and Development Engineer at Lexitek, Inc., where they executed electrical and optical engineering to develop a device to increase the efficacy of destruction of cancerous tumors via proton radiotherapy. In 2011, they joined Imagize, LLC as a Director of Manufacturing and Electrical Engineer, where they aggressively sought out opportunities to take on tasks, projects and roles that were beyond their station. Joshua then joined Sparse as the Chief Technical Officer and was part of the founding team responsible for all technical aspects of a line of award-winning, theft-proof bicycle lights. In 2013, they joined Aether Things as a Hardware Engineer to organize the EVT phase of Aether Cone. Joshua was then promoted on the basis of performance and led two projects comprising small form factor, BLE, WiFi, micro-power and rigid flex electronics assemblies. In 2015, they joined August Home, Inc. as a Senior Hardware Engineer and was one of two electrical engineers. In 2016, they joined Fitbit as an Advanced Product Development Lead Hardware Engineer, where they were responsible for the entirety of their team's electrical engineering and firmware needs. In 2017, they joined Blue Clover Devices - THE IoT ODM. as a Director Of Engineering and was tasked with leading the engineering group into a high performing, revenue generating organization. In 2018, they founded jMachina.io, an engineering consultancy for early stage startups bringing their first product to market. Finally, in 2020, they joined Ambient Photonics, Inc. as the VP of Engineering.

Joshua W. attended Wentworth Institute of Technology from 2003 to 2008 and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Electromechanical Engineering. In May 2007, they obtained a certification as an Engineer in Training from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying.
