Shelley Cohen

Shelley Cohen has a diverse work experience in clean technology, climate innovation, and sustainable energy. Shelley currently holds the position of Director, Clean Technology Business Development at Ameresco, where they are responsible for leading and developing clean technology initiatives. Additionally, Shelley has served as a Mentor at the Maryland Energy Innovation Accelerator, assisting in advancing a game-changing climate technology. Shelley is also an Advisor at Christensen Global, where they provide targeted support to early-stage innovators and climate-related technologies.

Prior to their current roles, Shelley held various positions, including Director of Solar Programs at the District of Columbia Sustainable Energy Utility, where they oversaw programs focused on installing community and residential solar to benefit low-income residents. Shelley is also the Co-founder of Alpha Solar Group, a solar development company offering consulting, development services, and marketing.

Earlier in their career, Shelley worked as a Senior Project Developer at Ameresco, developing renewable energy and energy efficiency projects. Shelley also served as Team Lead for the Landfill Methane Outreach Program at the US Environmental Protection Agency, promoting landfill gas utilization to reduce methane emissions. In addition, they worked at The White House as the Education Task Force Coordinator for the President's Council on Sustainable Development, exploring ways to make the country more sustainable and resilient. Shelley began their career as a Legislative Correspondent for Senator Joseph I. Lieberman in the United States Senate.

Shelley Cohen, MPA, LEED GA, LEED AP has a diverse educational history. Shelley earned their MPA in Energy and Environment from the Syracuse University - Maxwell School in 1992-1994. During the same period, they pursued Sustainable Development studies at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry. Prior to their master's degree, Shelley earned a BA in Political Science from Tufts University in 1988-1990. Shelley also holds a High School Degree from Hall High School, where they graduated in 1986.

In addition to their academic achievements, Shelley has obtained several certifications. Shelley became a Building Innovation Hub Ambassador from the Institute for Market Transformation in 2022. In 2020, they achieved certification from the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners. Shelley also holds certifications such as LEED Green Associate from the USGBC - National Capital Region Chapter in 2019, Climate Leader Mentor from The Climate Reality Project in 2017, and Climate Leader Training from The Climate Reality Project in 2012. Lastly, they attained Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design (LEED AP) certification from the USGBC - National Capital Region Chapter.
