Patrick Williams, PhD

Patrick Williams, PhD has a diverse work experience in the field of research. Patrick is currently a Senior Research Analyst at the American Association for Cancer Research, where they work within the Executive Office to develop and support the organization's mission in cancer research. Patrick collaborates with inter-departmental teams and external experts to create progress reports that highlight recent advances against cancer.

Prior to their current role, Patrick served as a Research Analyst at the same organization, playing a crucial role in developing and marketing the organization's progress reports.

Patrick also has experience as a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. In this role, they conducted research in Dr. Kathryn Hamilton's lab, focusing on understanding intestinal epithelial regeneration mechanisms using both in vitro and in vivo systems. Patrick explored topics such as autophagy, RNA-binding proteins, and diet-induced changes in intestinal biology.

Earlier in their career, Patrick worked as a Student Researcher at both the University of Pittsburgh and Thomas Jefferson University. At the University of Pittsburgh, they studied the regulation of the neurotransmitter dopamine in the synaptic cleft and its interactions with GPCRs in neurons. At Thomas Jefferson University, they focused on developing antibacterial coatings to prevent biofilm formation.

Additionally, Patrick worked as an Intern at UPMC, where they collaborated with a team to develop strategies for decreasing aspiration risk in the patient population by utilizing patient data and developing communication materials.

Patrick Williams, PhD completed their education in a chronological manner. Patrick started with their Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Biological Sciences and Philosophy of Science at the University of Pittsburgh, which they pursued from 2009 to 2013. Following that, they attended Drexel University College of Medicine from 2013 to 2017 to earn their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology.

In addition to their academic achievements, Patrick also obtained several certifications. In 2021, they completed the Firefighter certification from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress. In 2022, they obtained the CPR/AED/First Aid certification from the American Heart Association. Furthermore, in 2023, Patrick acquired the Commercial Aircraft Pilot certification from the Federal Aviation Administration.
