Shawn Sweeney

Shawn Sweeney has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. Shawn started their career in 1997 as a Graduate Student at Thomas Jefferson University, where they focused on Extracellular Matrix and angiogenesis and authored two publications. Shawn then joined the University of Pennsylvania as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow, specializing in Cardiovascular Development and Disease, and co-authored two papers. In 2007, Shawn became a Research Associate at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where they contributed to the field of Pulmonary Vascular Development and Disease, leading to a publication. Shawn then worked as an Editorial Intern at the Journal of Clinical Investigation, rewriting titles and abstracts, summarizing articles, and writing for a diverse audience. In 2010, Shawn joined The American Association for Cancer Research as a Senior Program Administrator in the Executive Office, managing various cancer-focused think tanks and working groups. Additionally, they served as an Adjunct Associate Professor at the International University of the Health Sciences, delivering lectures on Medical Embryology, Pharmacology, and Biochemistry and designing assessment questions. Finally, in 2017, Shawn became the Director of the AACR Project GENIE Coordinating Center at the American Association for Cancer Research, overseeing the project. Throughout their career, Shawn has made significant contributions to their field and demonstrated expertise in both research and administrative roles.

Shawn Sweeney completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry with ACS accreditation at the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia from 1990 to 1994. After that, they pursued a Ph.D. at Jefferson Health from 1997 to 2003. Shawn'sresearch during their Ph.D. focused on Collagen I-directed angiogenesis.
