August Muench

August Muench is a seasoned data scientist and astrophysicist with extensive experience in astronomical research and data management. Currently serving as a Journals Data Scientist at the American Astronomical Society since November 2014, August Muench manages digital data for AAS research journals, coordinating editorial teams and supporting authors in their publication efforts. Previous roles include an Astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, where August Muench developed data sharing systems and conducted workshops, as well as a Research Associate at Harvard University focusing on the WorldWide Telescope project. With a solid foundation in astronomy from the University of Florida, where August earned a PhD, and a BS in Physics from Georgia Institute of Technology, August Muench has contributed to significant research initiatives, including studies on circumstellar disks and the stellar initial mass function.
