Joel Parriott

Joel Parriott currently serves as the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Director of External Affairs and Public Policy at the American Astronomical Society, a position held since November 2012. In addition, Joel Parriott has been on assignment at the National Science Foundation since December 2021, serving as Deputy Executive Officer and Director of Public Policy, while also functioning as Assistant Director for Federal R&D at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy until June 2024. Previous experience includes roles at the Office of Management and Budget as a Program Examiner, a detailee at NIST, and Senior Program Officer at the National Academy of Sciences. Educational qualifications include a PhD in Astronomy & Astrophysics from the University of Michigan, an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Georgetown University, and a BA in Physics from Hamline University.
