General Position Summary

The Director will report to the Vice President, Federal Affairs as a part of the greater Advocacy department and will lead ACP’s political fundraising efforts, including administering ACP’s political action committee (CLEANPOWER PAC) and building and executing a strategy to grow CLEANPOWER PAC.  The position will also be involved in fundraising efforts around the industry’s 501(c)(4), American Energy Action (AEA), to include engaging with AEA management.  This position will help manage a grassroots advocacy program, including but not limited to organizing the annual industry lobby day, hosting in-state Congressional events, and managing publications, while also supporting other needs of the federal affairs team.

This individual will interact with all levels of staff within ACP and with key external stakeholders and members. Excellent communication skills, professionalism, and organizational skills are necessary attributes for this position. The renewable energy industry is a fast paced, emerging space and ACP’s Advocacy team reflects that and manages priorities accordingly. This position offers a unique opportunity to develop expertise and grow within a rapidly growing industry.

Political Action Committee

  • Oversees all fundraising
  • Creates and implements a strategic plan for PAC fundraising, including goal setting, event planning, donor engagement and tiered giving program.
  • Working closely with the VP, Federal Affairs, presents the PAC strategic plan to the ACP PAC Committee and solicits ACP member input and support.
  • Manages PAC disbursements, in close coordination with the Federal and State Affairs teams, including outreach to ACP members and coalition partners for joint fundraising ventures.
  • Designs and drives PAC solicitations.
  • Plans PAC fundraising events.
  • Oversees PAC compliance, including federal and state reporting requirements and vendor management.
  • Directs the day-to-day operations of the PAC, including but not limited to managing the disbursement budget, staff participation at fundraising events, logistics support for candidate fundraisers, and communications/reporting with members, Board, staff and donors.
  • Serves as the staff liaison for the PAC Committee.

American Energy Action

  • Working with the federal and state advocacy teams, develop a coordinated outreach campaign to fundraise for the industry (c)(4).

Grassroots Advocacy

  • Coordinates with communications team on in-district events, including roundtables, site visits, award ceremonies and ribbon cuttings.
  • Assists with logistics and development of programming lobby day.
  • Assists Federal Affairs team with other projects as directed, including liaising with other ACP departments on cross-cutting initiatives, projects and reports.
  • Attends ACP conferences and events as appropriate.

Education, Experience, Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, communications, environmental science or energy field required.
  • 8+ years of related experience, including demonstrated knowledge of political engagement, grassroots advocacy and event planning.
  • PAC management and fundraising experience required.
  • Political campaign experience preferred.
  • Self-starter, detail-oriented, proactive, able to multi-task, prioritize and adhere to timelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to proactively build relationships with Members of Congress and Hill staff.
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal),
  • Capacity to work collaboratively as a team player, while also identifying and resolving problems independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools.
  • Familiarity with online database functions of Federal Election Commission preferred.
  • Willingness to travel.

Job Conditions

We are a fast-paced, high-energy organization with a very ambitious agenda and a staff that is highly motivated. This position may experience high-level work demands and independent decision-making under tight timelines. Occasional travel outside of the Washington, DC area for meetings or events may be required. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. ACP will not sponsor applicants for work visas.

We reasonably believe that the base salary range for this position is $115,000 – 135,000. At ACP, a wide range of factors are considered when making compensation decisions including and not limited to skill set, experience, training, education, knowledge, and other business and organizational needs.
