Dr. Richard Valachovic

President Emeritus at American Dental Education Association (ADEA)

Dr. Richard Valachovic has a extensive work experience in the field of dentistry and dental education. Dr. Richard is currently serving as the Interim Chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Health Promotion at the New York University - College of Dentistry. In addition, they hold the position of Clinical Professor and Director at the NYU Dentistry Center for Oral Health Policy and Management, which is an interdisciplinary think tank focused on oral health policy and management. Prior to their current roles, Dr. Valachovic was a Visiting Scholar at New York University and the President Emeritus of the American Dental Education Association (ADEA). Dr. Richard has also served as the President and CEO of the ADEA, overseeing its expansion and leading productive collaborations with various partners. Before their involvement with the ADEA, Dr. Valachovic held clinical practice, faculty, and administrative positions at Harvard University.

Dr. Richard Valachovic has an extensive education history. Dr. Richard obtained their High School Diploma from Bishop Gibbons High School in Schenectady, NY in 1969. Dr. Richard then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Biological Sciences from St. Lawrence University from 1970 to 1973. Continuing their education, they pursued a Doctor of Dental Medicine (D.M.D.) degree from the University of Connecticut, completing it in 1977. Dr. Valachovic furthered their studies at Children's Hospital Medical Center-Boston, where they served as a Resident in Pediatric Dentistry from 1977 to 1979. Dr. Richard then became a Research Fellow at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine from 1979 to 1982. During the same period, they also pursued a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) and a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree in Health Policy and Management from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. Finally, in 2012, Dr. Richard Valachovic was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) degree from the University of Connecticut.
