Nicole Johnson

Nicole Johnson, DrPH has an extensive work history in the field of diabetes prevention and advocacy. Nicole currently holds the position of Vice President, Operations, Science & Health Care at the American Diabetes Association, where they led the team responsible for securing a 5-year, $12.5M CDC grant on Diabetes Prevention and modernized major sessions/events at the annual ADA Scientific Sessions and Clinical Update Conference.

Prior to their current role, Johnson served as the National Director at HundredX, where they executed the company's vision to create resources for non-profit organizations and causes. Nicole also led the relationship-building efforts with over 70 non-profit partners, including organizations such as the Diabetes Education & Camping Association, EmpowHERment Foundation, and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation.

Before their time at HundredX, Johnson held various roles at JDRF International, a leading organization focused on type 1 diabetes research and advocacy. Nicole served as the Senior Director, leading the establishment of the first T1D Behavioral Health and Psychology research division and managing a $2M portfolio. Nicole also created and supervised a national diabetes psychology fellowship program. Additionally, they served on the organization's International Board of Directors, where they chaired the T1D Voices Council and assisted with market research.

Earlier in their career, Johnson worked at the University of South Florida as the Executive Director of the Bringing Science Home department. In this role, they secured a private gift of $5.66M to establish the department and led initiatives such as designing social marketing initiatives around diabetes prevention and creating the USF Diabetes Home for Healthy Living.

Earlier in their career, Johnson gained experience as a Producer/Writer/Reporter at The Christian Broadcasting Network, where they wrote promotional materials, reported news data, and organized communication with affiliate stations nationwide.

Lastly, Johnson's work experience includes a role as Miss America 1999, where they participated in public relations, media, speech writing, and spokesperson duties. Nicole generated diabetes awareness and advocacy and fundraised for diabetes causes in excess of $12M during their time with The Miss America Organization.

Nicole Johnson, DrPH has a varied education history. Nicole completed their Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) degree in Community and Family Health at the University of South Florida from 2009 to 2013. Johnson also pursued a Certificate in Executive Leadership for Healthcare Professionals at Cornell University from 2016 to 2017. Nicole holds a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in Public Health and Behavioral Science from the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health, which they obtained between 2003 and 2007.
