COO, American Express National Bank at American Express

Rick Petrino is Chief Operating Officer (COO) of American Express National Bank (AENB) and a member of the AENB Board of Directors and American Express’ Executive Committee. In this role, Rick is responsible for the administration of programs and services provided by AENB in partnership with the CEO and other executive officers of the U.S. Bank and for ensuring that all aspects of the U.S. Bank’s activities are fully integrated into the way it operates the company’s U.S. businesses. He ensures ongoing compliance with laws and regulations governing U.S. Bank policies and procedures and is responsible for helping the AENB in attaining all established operational and financial goals.

Rick brings 23 year of experience with American Express to the role. He was previously the Chief Accounting Officer and Corporate Controller, where he partnered across the company to ensure financial integrity and a strong control environment through delivery of financial accounting, reporting, compliance, planning and advisory services.

Prior to this role, Rick served as Senior Vice President, Head of Global Operational Risk and Oversight. In this capacity, Rick had responsibility for key risk disciplines including, Enterprise Risk Management, Model Risk Management, Credit Risk Oversight, Operational Risk Governance, and Global Privacy Oversight. He earlier served as Senior Vice President, Global Capital Markets & Basel Program within the Treasury Organization. In this capacity, Rick had responsibility for Global Funding, Debt Investor Relations, Global Exposure Management, Direct Deposits, Non-Banking Legal Entity Management, and for managing the Company-wide Basel Program.

From 2007-2014, Rick was Senior Vice President of Corporate Planning and Investor Relations, serving as key advisor to the company's senior business leaders, including the CEO, CFO, and the Operating Committee. In addition to responsibilities including monthly results reviews, forecasting and annual and long-range planning, Rick also acted as the primary liaison between the company and two key financial constituencies, the investment community and rating agencies.

Rick has held various roles of increased responsibility since joining the company in 1996. Before joining American Express, Rick was an Assistant Vice President in the Controllers Group at CS First Boston and a Senior Accountant at KPMG Peat Marwick. Rick has a degree in accounting from Lehigh University and an MBA from NYU. He is also a CPA.
