Jan Poling has held several key roles throughout their work experience. Jan began their career at the Alabama Attorney General's Office in 1981 as an Attorney. From there, they moved on to the Office of General Counsel at the United States Department of Interior in 1984, where they worked until 1992. During this time, they served as an Associate General Counsel, focusing on natural resources. Jan Poling then joined the United States Department of Agriculture in 1992, where they held the role of Associate General Counsel, Natural Resources until 2007. In 2007, they transitioned to the American Forest & Paper Association as the VP, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary, where they are currently employed.

Jan Poling has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Auburn University. Jan also holds a JD degree in Law from The University of Alabama.
