Chris Owens

Vice President, Southern Division at American Foundation for Suicide Prevention

Chris Owens has a diverse work experience that spans over several decades. They began their career as a Graduate Nurse at St. Mary Medical Center in 1984. They then worked as a Staff Nurse in Orthopedics & Plastic Surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1985. From 1986 to 1991, they held the position of Staff Nurse in Psychiatry at Duke University Medical Center, where they also worked as a float nurse for the Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) service. During this time, they also served as a Research Nurse in Psychiatry at Duke University from 1988 to 1991. In 2004, Chris joined the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention as the Atlanta Walk Coordinator, responsible for organizing fundraising walks. They were then promoted to Georgia Area Director in 2006, where they focused on suicide prevention education and advocacy. In 2018, they became the Senior Director of the Southern Division, responsible for the growth and effectiveness of the foundation's local chapters in nine states. In 2022, Chris took on the role of Vice President, Southern Division, with a focus on driving the foundation's growth and effectiveness in the assigned geographic area.

Chris Owens earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Duquesne University from 1980 to 1984. In 2022, Chris obtained a certification in Preventing Discrimination & Harassment: US Managers from Traliant.
