Catherine Nakalembe

Advisory Council Member at American Geographical Society

Catherine Nakalembe, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland, where Catherine has been since January 2023, after a tenure at the same institution that began in 2010. Currently serving as Africa Director for NASA Harvest, Catherine focuses on capacity building in the use of Earth Observations data, including crop type mapping and monitoring. Catherine is an active member of the Global Water Partnership Africa Network's Technical Reference Group, contributing expertise in key areas such as water governance and climate resilience. Additionally, Catherine serves on the Advisory Council of the American Geographical Society, following previous consultancy roles with prestigious organizations such as the World Bank and the IPCC. Academic qualifications include a Ph.D. in Geographical Sciences from the University of Maryland, a Master's in Environmental Engineering from The Johns Hopkins University, and a Bachelor's in Environmental Science from Makerere University.
