Anna Shaughnessy

President Elect at American Geosciences Institute

Anna Shaughnessy has a diverse work experience in the field of geosciences spanning over several decades. Anna currently serves as the President Elect at the American Geosciences Institute. Prior to this, they worked as a Senior Consultant at Interpretation**3 from 2018 to 2023. Anna also took on the role of Interim Executive Director at SEG for a brief period in 2019. Anna's extensive experience includes serving as the Executive Director at MIT Earth Resources Laboratory from 2011 to 2018 and as the Director of Geosciences e-Learning at IHRDC from 2009 to 2010. Anna has also held various managerial positions in exploration and new ventures at Kerr McGee Oil and Gas, Texaco, and Mobil Oil. Their career began in 1980 at Mobil Oil as a Geophysicist, where they gained valuable experience before moving on to Saudi Aramco as a Geophysicist and Project Leader. Overall, Anna Shaughnessy has a strong background in geophysics and has held leadership roles in both educational and industry settings.

Anna Shaughnessy has a Bachelor of Science equivalent in Oceanography from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, completed in 1977. Anna then pursued a Master of Science in Oceanography/Marine Geophysics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1978 to 1980.
