Leya Joykutty

Director Research Program at American Heritage School

Leya Joykutty has a vast work experience spanning several organizations and roles. Leya served as the Director of the Florida Junior Academy of Science, where they increased state-wide participation, introduced a poster session for the competition, and created a dedicated website. As the Director of Science Research at the American Heritage Group, they created a science research curriculum and a competitive summer research program. Leya also built the science program from 4 to 35 students, leading to numerous awards at various levels. Leya made significant contributions as a teacher, creating biology curriculum and achieving a 100% pass rate for AP Biology students. Leya has also served as a judge and committee member for the Broward County Science and Engineering Fair and as a grand award judge for INTEL ISEF. Furthermore, they have held roles as the Director of Research Program and a teacher at the American Heritage School, where they developed and implemented various programs and coached National Science Bowl teams. Leya has served as a judge at eCybermission and as a student research conference judge for Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society. Leya started their teaching career at Flanagan High School before transitioning to their current roles.

Leya Joykutty has an extensive education history. Leya began their educational journey in 1987 at the University of Kerala, where they received a Bachelor's of Science degree in Zoology/Animal Biology, Botany, French, and English in 1990. Leya then pursued a Master's degree in Zoology/Animal Biology at the same university from 1990 to 1992.

In 1993, Leya attended the University of Miami to further their studies in Biochemistry, Cell, and Molecular Biology, working towards a Ph.D degree. Leya completed the coursework but did not finish the degree, as they are listed as having completed Ph.D (abd) in 1996, which stands for "all but dissertation."

Later, Leya relocated to Florida and enrolled in Florida Atlantic University, where they earned a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree in Curriculum and Instruction from 2012 to 2018.

Additionally, Leya has obtained the Biology 6-12 certification from the Florida Department of Education, although the specific month and year of obtaining this certification are not provided.
