Senior Researcher at American Institutes for Research

Emily Ackman has a diverse work experience in the field of education and research. Emily most recently worked as a Senior Researcher at the American Institutes for Research since October 2019. Prior to that, they served as a School Committee Representative for Ward 1 at Somerville Public Schools starting from January 2018. From January 2018 to October 2019, they were also a Turnaround Site Visit Leader at the Institute for Strategic Leadership and Learning, INSTLL, LLC. As a Consulting Researcher at Scholastic, Emily worked from June 2016 to April 2018. Emily also has experience as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Harvard Graduate School of Education from November 2013 to February 2016, where they collaborated with district and school leaders, conducted independent research, and served as the Communications Director. Prior to that, they worked as a Research Assistant at Arizona State University from 2008 to 2011, focusing on longitudinal data analysis, research on graduation testing, and data collection for state policy. Emily also gained experience as an Instructor at Columbia University from 2005 to 2008, and as a Research Assistant at the University of Georgia from 2003 to 2005.

Emily Ackman has a strong educational background in the field of Education Policy & Evaluation. Emily obtained a PhD from Arizona State University between 2008 and 2013. Prior to that, they pursued an Ed.M. in Politics & Education at Columbia University from 2006 to 2008. Emily also holds an M.Ed. in Administration & Policy from The University of Georgia, which they completed between 2003 and 2005. Furthermore, they earned a B.A. in Sociology & Political Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst from 1998 to 2002.
