Helen Muhisani

Senior Researcher at American Institutes for Research

Helen Muhisani has a diverse work experience spanning different organizations. Helen started their career in 2003 as a Senior Research Associate at Heartland Alliance, where they evaluated programs related to supportive housing, homelessness, and employment/job training. Helen then moved on to Chicago Public Schools in 2008 as a Senior Data Analyst, where they were responsible for reporting key postsecondary outcomes for CPS graduates. During their time at CPS, they monitored performance indicators for various programs and provided research reports and findings to aid in program development. In 2012, Helen joined the American Institutes for Research as a Researcher, where they focused on postsecondary outcomes and college and career readiness. Helen served as the evaluation team lead for a large-scale study funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and was involved in evaluating the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of the Virtual Enterprises program. In 2019, they became a Founding Member of the Black Researchers Collective.

Helen Muhisani has a Masters of Urban Planning and Policy in Community Development from the University of Illinois Chicago. Helen also possesses a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a focus on Marketing from Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
