Kevin Dempsey

Kevin Dempsey has a diverse work experience starting from 1987. Kevin began as an Associate at Arnold & Porter and later joined the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, where they served as Minority Counsel, focusing on climate change, acid rain, and air toxin regulations. Kevin also participated in drafting the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990. Kevin then worked as Counsel for the Office of Senator John C. Danforth, handling oversight of trade negotiations and disputes, as well as advising on climate change and environmental regulations.

In 1992, Kevin became the Minority Counsel for the U.S. Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, serving as the principal trade policy advisor to Senator John C. Danforth. During this time, they played a crucial role in drafting implementing legislation for significant trade agreements such as NAFTA and the Uruguay Round Multilateral Trade Agreements.

Moving into the private sector, Kevin joined Dewey Ballantine LLP in 1995, where they initially served as an Associate and subsequently became a Partner. Kevin'swork primarily focused on international trade law and policy, climate change regulation, technology policy, tax, and government relations. Kevin managed complex trade litigation matters, incorporating legal, economic, political, and public relations strategies. Kevin continued their legal career at Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP from 2007 to 2009, serving as a Partner.

Kevin's latest position is with the American Iron and Steel Institute, where they started in 2009 as the Senior Vice President for Public Policy and General Counsel. In this role, they led the organization's public policy team, representing the interests of North American steel producers. Kevin'sresponsibilities covered various areas, including international trade, tax, energy and environmental policy, climate change, transportation and infrastructure, workforce policy, and sustainability. Kevin also served as the association's chief legal officer. In 2020, Kevin took on the role of Interim President and Chief Executive Officer, and later that year, they became the permanent President and Chief Executive Officer.

Throughout their career, Kevin Dempsey has demonstrated expertise in trade policy, legislation drafting, environmental regulations, and legal counsel.

Kevin Dempsey attended Harvard Law School from 1984 to 1987, where they obtained a J.D. cum laude in the field of Law. Prior to that, from 1980 to 1984, they attended Washington University in St. Louis, earning an A.B. with honors in the field of History.
